Curriculum for a Teaching Field in Family and Consumer Sciences Education Grades 5-Adult
The family and consumer sciences education student is provided with experiences to increase knowledge and skill in preparation for teaching family and consumer sciences in grades 5-12.
The purposes of the family and consumer sciences program are:
- To develop critical thinking skills in dealing with family concerns, issues, and problems;
- To explore the role of families in society and the application of theories to enhance problem-solving abilities;
- To develop a student’s knowledge base and experience regarding issues that affect families using a lifespan perspective; and
- To apply the ecosystem approach to the daily lives of students using family and consumer sciences curriculum to increase life satisfaction.
Upon satisfactory completion of curriculum requirements, the student is awarded a bachelor of arts degree in secondary education and must apply to the State Department of Education for vocational certification. Total hours required, 43 hours:
