CHEM 208 - Introduction to Organic and Biochemistry (3 cr) CHEM 208 and its associated lab, CHEM 208L , are the second part of an two-semester sequence that serves as an introduction to modern chemistry for students majoring in nursing and therapeutic sciences as well as environmental and ecological sciences. The topics covered include covalent bonding, acid/base and solution chemistry, organic naming and structure, organic reactions as pertaining to biochemical processes, biomolecules (carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids), and metabolism. This course is not designed to be taken in place of a two-semester organic or biochemistry course and will not count towards the chemistry major or minor. Prerequisites: It is recommended, but not required, that CHEM 207 and CHEM 207L be taken as a prerequisite. Prerequisite/corequisite: MATH 101 , MATH 105 , MATH 108 , MATH 205 , MATH 207 , or appropriate placement score, or permission of instructor. Corequisite: It is recommended, but not required, that CHEM 208L be taken concurrently.
