SOWK 321 - Child Welfare and Advocacy II(3cr) This course focuses on the responses of professionals to allegations of abuse and neglect. The purpose of the course is to expand students’ knowledge and skills in identifying, investigating, and prosecuting child maltreatment. The roles of child protective service workers, social workers, mental health professionals, medical professionals, law enforcement officers, and attorneys will be presented. Students will explore the collaborative work of child advocacy centers and their function in multidisciplinary team processes. Achieving positive outcomes for children and their families through interprofessional collaboration will be emphasized. The course is designed for students major in social work, sociology, criminal justice, psychology, nursing, education or other areas where knowledge of child maltreatment and advocating for children might be necessary. Prerequisites: SOWK 320 .
