SOWK 320 - Child Welfare and Advocacy I

(3 cr) The course covers the history of child welfare; the comparative perspectives, legal framework, and skills necessary for child advocacy; and responses to child maltreatment. This course also focuses on controversies in the field of child maltreatment and approaches to child maltreatment and advocacy from diverse professional perspectives. Disproportionality, cultural humility, equity, and ethical decision making in child welfare are also addressed. This course is designed for students majoring in social work, sociology, criminal justice, psychology, nursing, education or other areas where knowledge of child maltreatment and advocating for children might be necessary.  Previously titled Child Welfare Services. Prerequisites: SOCI 203  and PSYC 101 .
