PSCI 419 - International Politics of Human Rights(3cr) International Politics of Human Rights is a course designed to give students an introduction to human rights as a philosophical concept, a part of international law, and a subject of international politics. The history of human rights as a philosophy goes back to ancient times, and it has become an issue of contention in politics ever since. With the inclusion of human rights in the body of international law and the consequent drive for implementation, monitoring, and enforcement of these laws, the international politics over the issues have intensified. In this course, both theoretical and practical aspects of the international politics of human rights will be addressed, including case studies and a project in which students will have to apply the knowledge they obtained in the course by designing a grassroots action on an international human rights situation. Prerequisites: PSCI 100 or PSCI 101 or permission of instructor.
