The criminal justice system is made up of institutions and agencies that operate to prevent and address criminal activity within society. The criminal justice program offers students a strong liberal arts education designed to enhance understandings of human behavior, culture, and society. Students in the major will examine all components of the criminal justice system, including law enforcement, the court system, and corrections. Courses in criminology, law, policing, corrections, and sociology help students develop as individuals and responsible citizens. Theoretical and applied learning courses build knowledge and skills applicable to a broad range of opportunities. The department has a long and rich tradition of preparing students for employment in academic, governmental, non-profit, and law enforcement organizations. Students are also encouraged and prepared to pursue graduate studies. Dedicated to excellence in student learning, the department also contributes to the core curriculum and specific degree programs across campus.
