SOCI 419 - Capstone Field Experience in CRIM/SOCI

(3 cr) This course provides a structured program of supervised fieldwork and participants observation in a community-based organization or criminal justice agency. Working with the internship coordinator, students will select an appropriate placement site aligned with their academic and career interests. After approval, an on-site internship supervisor will guide students through professional activities and responsibilities appropriate to the agency. Through this field experience, students integrate major social science and criminal justice theories with applied practice, strengthen professional written and oral communication skills, and demonstrate their ability to use core disciplinary concepts in real-world settings. To support organizational analysis and reflective learning, students are required to maintain a field journal, develop a final paper that includes a research proposal related to their site, and deliver a capstone presentation at the end of the semester. All students will also complete a resume workshop to prepare for future employment opportunities. This course serves as a capstone option for majors, emphasizing applied learning, professional development, and the synthesis of theoretical and experiential knowledge. This course may not be repeated for additional credit.
