CHEM 262 - Forensic Science II

(3 cr) CHEM 262 and its companion lab, CHEM 262L, is the second part of a two-semester sequence that serves as a foundational course for the sciences in the field of forensics. Topics include forensic toxicology, handwriting and ink analysis, entomology, death, soil and water analysis, anthropology, glass evidence, casts and impressions, tool marks, and firearms and ballistics, and the science behind each topic, with a focus on biology, chemistry, environmental science, physics, and math. Special application emphasis will be given to the criminal justice system while highlighting both theoretical and applied science. Prerequisites: High school science and algebra. Corequisite: It is strongly recommended, but not required, that the lab CHEM 262L be taken concurrently.
