CHEM 260L - Forensic Science I Laboratory(1 cr) CHEM 260L and its companion course, CHEM 260, is the first part of a two-semester sequence that serves as a foundational course for the sciences in the field of forensics. Topics include measurements and units, chemical hazards and reactions, microscopy, plant identification, fingerprinting, DNA extraction, blood typing, and blood splatter analysis, and the science behind each topic, with a focus on biology, chemistry, environmental science, physics, and math. Special application emphasis will be given to the criminal justice system while highlighting proper lab technique and safety. Prerequisites: High school science and algebra. Corequisite: It is strongly recommended, but not required, that the lecture CHEM 260 be taken concurrently.
