CHEM 260 - Forensic Science I

(3 cr) CHEM 260 and its companion lab, CHEM 260L, is the first part of a two-semester sequence that serves as a foundational course for the sciences in the field of forensics. Topics include crime scene investigation, measurements and unit conversion, hair analysis, fiber analysis, forensic botany, fingerprints, DNA profiling, blood analysis, and the science behind each topic, with a focus on biology, chemistry, environmental science, physics, and math. Special application emphasis will be given to the criminal justice system while highlighting both theoretical and applied science. Prerequisites: High school science and algebra. Corequisite: It is strongly recommended, but not required, that the lab CHEM 260L be taken concurrently.
