SOWK 423 - Research and Statistics(4cr) This course is designed to introduce social work students to research methods for evidence-based social work practice and data-informed decision making. Essential statistical concepts are discussed (i.e., frequency distributions, measures of central tendency, measures of variability, probability and sampling, bivariate analysis, and interpreting correlation), and quantitative and qualitative research methods are presented. Special attention is given to research methods used to evaluate social work practice at the individual, family, group, organization, and community levels. Additionally, students will examine the relationship between ethical research practices and the core values of the social work profession. Previously offered for 3cr as Research for Social Work. Prerequisites: MATH 109 or equivalent with instructor permission.
