NURS 590 - Behavioral Neuroscience and Psychopharmacology

(3cr) This course is designed to provide the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) student with advanced knowledge, skills, and experiences in relation to diagnosis, differential diagnosis, pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions for the treatment of mental health disorders. The student will learn to identify resources necessary to function in a variety of practice areas while preparing for certification and licensure. Biopsychosocial factors that influence patient adherence are addressed with emphasis on shared decision-making and patient-centered care. The student will work collaboratively with health care providers using integrated practices that improve access, quality, and cost-effective care. The practicum component for this course includes 180 direct patient care hours with 1 hour each week for clinical supervision.
