The course is divided into three major sections: 1) an overview of the politics of civil rights from the end of the Civil War through the Eisenhower administration; 2) the Kennedy-Johnson presidencies; and 3) a very brief overview of the post-Johnson years, with an emphasis on the changes that have occurred in political party strategies and public opinion as they effect and are effected by African-American civil rights. Prerequisites: PSCI 100 or 101 or permission of instructor.
