Programs and Activities

The Student Center

The Student Center is the hub for campus activities, recreation, and involvement. Through its services, programs, and dynamic facilities, the Student Center provides a welcoming and inclusive sense of place where students, faculty, staff, alumni, and visitors gather to share experiences and exchange diverse ideas. The Student Center fosters student engagement, community, and learning through recreational activities, cultural events, social programming, and leadership initiatives.

The Ram's Den on the main floor hosts two dining options. The Ram's Den Grill, offering breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack menu items, and the Fireside Bistro, a coffeehouse-style eatery with locally roasted coffee, milkshakes, and made-to-order sandwiches, salads, and wraps.

Also housed in the Student Center are the University Bookstore, Games Zone, TV lounge, meeting rooms, and a variety of offices including Student Affairs, Student Engagement, and Student Community Services.

The Games Zone includes eight bowling lanes and a large activity room with billiard tables, table tennis, air hockey, video games, table soccer, and board games. The Storer Ballroom is available for movies, large meetings, and special events. Several meeting rooms are available for study, relaxation, or meetings of registered campus organizations. The Student Government Association and Program Board offices are also located in the Student Center.

The Student Center is home to Student Activities and Leadership, Conference Services, and the campus Information Center. The Information Center handles room reservation requests, administers a campus Lost and Found center, and helps connect students and guests to campus offices and resources.

Performing Arts Series at Shepherd (PASS)

The Performing Arts Series at Shepherd (PASS) provides opportunities for educational and cultural engagement through performances and events featuring world-class national and international performing artists. Our multicultural programs complement Shepherd's curriculum and offer opportunities for learning and growth outside the classroom as well as contribute to the cultural and economic life of our regional community. Artistic excellence, diversity, and opportunities for learning are at the heart of our mission.

Shepherd students with a valid Rambler ID may receive one free ticket to each PASS performance at the Shepherd Bookstore on the ground floor of the Student Center. For information on the current season visit RamPulse or PASS's website  www.shepherd.edu/passweb/.

Student Activities Programming

Program Board

The Program Board (PB) sponsors diverse events that entertain and unite Shepherd's community. From comedians and speakers to movies, crafts, and late night programs, Program Board's events are designed to entertain, educate, and engage students through free weekly programs on campus as well as through low-cost trips to major cities. This is programming BY students FOR students.

Program Board's executive team members develop strong leadership skills and learn how to plan, market, and assess diverse cultural, recreational, educational, and community-building programs. The executive board is chosen through an interview process from applications solicited from the student body. Volunteers are always needed and welcomed. To get involved, visit the Program Board RamPulse page or follow Program Board on social media.

Leadership Conference at Shepherd

For more than 30 years, the Student Leadership Conference at Shepherd (LCS) has been bringing students together to develop lifelong leadership skills. This free daylong conference brings special guest lecturers, performers, and community leaders together with representatives from every campus organization and the student body at large to share ideas. Activities during the conference range from large group sessions with dynamic keynote speakers to small, interactive group workshops. The conference is free and open to all students. Contact the Student Center's Office of Student Activities and Leadership for more information.

Intramurals

Housed in the Wellness Center, the intramural program engages students in recreational activity through healthy competition in a safe environment. For team registration, calendar of events, or other questions, please stop by the front desk at the Wellness Center. For more information, please visit www.shepherdwellness.com or call 304-876-5005

Religious Life

Shepherdstown has a variety of churches including Baptist, Episcopal, Lutheran, Methodist, Presbyterian, Reformed, and Roman Catholic. Synagogues, mosques, and churches of other denominations are located in nearby communities. Various religious groups sponsor registered campus organizations which offer many opportunities for spiritual fellowship. These organizations sponsor weekly meetings, study groups, weekly meals, and other special events. Ministers from local churches serve campus students on an informal basis and are available for religious counseling or guidance. See the Office of Student Activities and Leadership for help connecting with a faith community.

Student Code of Conduct

The staff at Shepherd University assumes that students enroll with a sincere desire to become better educated individuals and to prepare themselves for useful, productive lives. The intent of the university is to facilitate student development in habits of study, application, self-control, integrity, honesty, and ethical standards by which to live and work. The university affirms that students have certain rights and responsibilities for contributing to their own personal growth and awareness within the framework of the campus community. The university reserves the right to take appropriate action, including separation from the university, for violations of accepted standards. All students are expected to be familiar with and are governed by the policies of this university, in particular the Student Code of Conduct, found in the Student Handbook, which includes a section on residence life policies. Handbooks are available online.

Student Organizations, Groups, Committees

^Top

Student learning is central to the culture of Shepherd University both inside and outside the classroom. Registered organizations and clubs are an important part of this education since they allow students to gain leadership skills, to explore their values, and to begin laying the foundation for their professional careers. Adding to the richness of our campus culture, clubs and organizations, give students the opportunity to explore their own interests. Understanding the importance of diversity, we continue to work to engage and support a wide range of multicultural, academic, professional, Greek, social, philanthropic, political, cultural, recreational, spiritual, and athletic organizations. An up-to-date listing of all registered campus groups and their contact information can be found on Shepherd's RamPulse portal. For help starting a new group or connecting with a current one, please contact the Student Activities and Leadership Office in the Student Center.
