History, B.A.

History is the exploration of the past as a key to understanding the human condition. Historical study enables students to understand their own and other civilizations and to confront the present and future with intelligence and perspective.

Curriculum for a Major in History
Specific Core Curriculum requirements:
History majors must select:
- at least one course in Literature to meet their Tier 2 Humanities requirement; and
- at least one course in Economics and one course in Political Science to meet their Tier 2 Social Science requirement.
History majors enroll in one of three Concentrations:
- General
- Civil War and Nineteenth-Century America
- Historic Preservation and Public History
Total hours required for a major, 39 Hours:
Required courses, 9 Hours:
All history majors must complete 9 hours of the following courses.
Complete two of the following: General concentration, 30 Hours:
One 300- or 400-level course in United States history from the following, 3 Hours:
One 300- or 400-level course in European history from the following, 3 Hours:
One 300- or 400-level course in African, Asian, Middle Eastern, or Latin American history chosen from the following, 3 Hours:
Elective courses, 18 Hours:
- Any six electives chosen from among 300- or 400-leve history courses.
Capstone Requirement, 3 Hours:
