Sociology is a dynamic field committed to the scientific study of social life, social change, diverse communities and their interactions. The sociology program, with both a traditional sociology and a criminal justice concentration, offers students a strong liberal arts education designed to enhance understandings of human behavior, culture, and society. The program also offers minors in sociology and geography/anthropology.  Courses in sociology, criminology, geography, and anthropology help students develop as individuals and responsible citizens. Theoretical and applied learning courses build knowledge and skills applicable to a broad range of opportunities. The department has a long and rich tradition of preparing students for employment in academic, governmental, non-profit, and law enforcement organizations. Students are also encouraged and prepared to pursue graduate studies. Dedicated to excellence in student learning, the department also contributes to the core curriculum and specific degree programs across campus.

The four-year curriculum leads to the bachelor of science degree in sociology. Candidates for this degree are required to complete a minimum of 120 semester hours.
