Curriculum for a Bachelor of Arts, Major in Communication and New Media


 

Required courses, 39 + 12 Language Hours:


In addition to the 39 required COMM credits, students pursuing the Bachelor of Arts must satisfy the B.A. Foreign Language Requirement  . Students take core classes, elective practicum and capstone sequences, and choose one of four concentrations: 1) digital filmmaking, 2) new media, 3) media studies, or 4) strategic communication.

Required core courses, 18 Hours:


Students must complete lower-level core courses before taking 400-level courses.  However, students are encouraged to begin taking their concentration courses concurrently.

Curriculum for a Bachelor of Science, Major in Communication and New Media


 

Required courses, 45 Hours:


Students take core classes, elective practicum and capstone sequences, and choose one of four concentrations:  1) digital filmmaking, 2) new media, 3) media studies, or 4) strategic communication.

Required core courses, 21 Hours:


Students must complete lower-level core courses before taking 400-level courses.  However, students are encouraged to begin taking their concentration courses concurrently.

Note(s):


**Students may take practicum courses three times for a total of nine credit hours. The first three hours count toward a major and any additional hours are counted as general electives.

***COMM 403 - Media Studies  and COMM 406 - Advertising and Imagery  are also electives in the women’s studies minor.

****COMM 399 Special Topics and COMM 402 - Seminar in Communications  are courses in new technologies, course content, or faculty research and publication. These courses may be taken more than one time if the topics or instructors are different. These classes may be used as substitutions for courses in the regular catalog; please obtain permission to substitute a course from the department chair prior to registration.
