GSCI 541 - Historical Geology(3 cr) This course emphasizes all major components included in historical geology focusing on the study of earth’s evolution, which includes changes in the planet’s crust, surface, atmosphere, and life through time. Topics covered include the evolution and characterization of life throughout geologic time, plate tectonic theory and changing continental position through geologic time, origin of life, major extinctions and their causes, taxonomy and paleobiology of fossils, classification of sedimentary rocks, and lithologic facies analysis.
