Contemporary Theater Studies, B.A.

Shepherd University offers a program in Contemporary Theater Studies leading to the Bachelor of Arts degree.


The purpose of the program is to:

  1. expose students to the significant theories, trends, and principles that contribute to practices in the contemporary theatre field.
  2.  teach students to think and work conceptually, while mastering the technical skills necessary to translate those concepts into making, supporting, and enjoying theatre.
  3. prepare students to be empathetic, collaborative, passionate, and transformative art makers, mastering professional practices and sustaining an understanding of needs and trends in theatre and other creative fields.

 

Curriculum for a Major in Contemporary Theater Studies


In addition to the Core Curriculum  and the requirements for the major and minor, students pursuing the Bachelor of Arts must satisfy the B.A. Foreign Language Requirement .

Total Hours required for a Contemporary Theater Studies Major, 58 Hours:


Restricted Elective Courses, 21 Hours:


At least 15 of the required 21 restricted elective credits must be chosen from upper-division (300-400 level) coursework.
