Communication and New Media Minor

Shepherd University recognizes the interdisciplinary nature of the field of communication and has thus constructed a minor in communication and new media that reflects the variety of skills and the knowledge base necessary for the success in this dynamic field. The Department of Mass Communications at Shepherd University fosters student learning through personal empowerment and achievement using technological skills, intellectual challenges, and cultural insights to contribute to students’ understanding of culture, community, and self.
The primary objectives of the communication minor include the following:
- To expose the student to the theory and practice of communication and digital media.
- To provide students an educational foundation in broadcast and digital media technologies including video, audio, animation, web design, game design, social media, strategic communication, and media studies.
- To prepare students for continuing studies and employment at all levels of media (from production to management, mass to micromedia) through a rigorous program of cultural studies and computer-mediated communication.
