The Sociology minor provides students with a deeper understanding of how society works, how individuals and groups are affected by society, and how this knowledge can be used to improve the world around us. The minor focuses on sharpening students’ critical thinking skills, as well as developing problem-solving and communication skills. The minor is an excellent complement to any major that requires students to understand the totality of human behavior and social life in order to navigate complex social institutions and understand the varied social forces shaping everyday life. The minor expands students’ knowledge about social reality, social inequality, social stratification, diversity, and social identity by introducing the core social theories and topics within the discipline. Students wishing to pursue the minor must complete 18 hours of coursework in Sociology (excluding SOCI 323 Social Research Methods , SOCI 324 Intro to Social Statistics , and SOCI 420 Senior Thesis ).
