Curriculum for a Teaching Field in English Education 5-Adult

In addition to the course work required for the specialization, all prospective student teachers must take the English Field Assessment and participate in at least TWO laboratory activities in language arts:  Academic Support Center Writing Tutor, Theater, Forensics, Radio, Sans Merci, The Picket, Appalachian Heritage WIR Program, Rude Mechanicals, ENGL 476 Practicum in English I , Service Learning, Global Learning or Travel, or other activity approved in advance by the specialization coordinator.  Students must have at least one practical experience tutoring in the Academic Support Center.

Per English Language Arts NCTE Accreditation of the 5-Adult Program and Professional requirements, certain Core courses are required of all English LA majors: 1) EDUC 150  (First Year Experience Tier 1); 2) 3 hours of World Literature (Humanities Tier 2 GL); 3) EDUC 200 Foundations of American Education  and EDUC 360 Survey of Exceptional Children  (Social Sciences Tier 2, MD).
