CHEM 315 - Organic Chemistry I(3 cr each) This course introduces the fundamental concepts of structure and reactivity of organic compounds. Topics covered include the chemistry of alkanes, alkyl halides, alkenes, and other functional groups. Reaction mechanisms, stereochemistry, and spectroscopy of organic compounds are emphasized. Previously titled Organic Chemistry. Prerequisites: CHEM 209 . Corequisite: It is strongly recommended, but not required, that CHEM 315L be taken concurrently.
