EDUC 566 - Advanced Methods: Low Incidence Disabilities

(3cr) The focus of this course is to introduce prospective teachers to students who have low incidence disabilities with a focus on intellectual disabilities. This course will include definitions, etiology, prevalence, and characteristics of individuals with intellectual disabilities.  Additionally, students in this course will investigate service delivery, roles of various professionals, current trends and philosophies related to persons with intellectual disabilities.  Learning characteristics, teaching strategies, instructional settings, legal issues, ethics and assessment regarding individuals with intellectual disabilities will also be examined.
