EDUC 597 - Introductory Pedagogy(3 cr) This 3-credit course is the first of two courses in Shepherd’s CERT First Initiative, an approved coursework option which is part of the WVDE Alternative Certification Program. Enrollment is limited to individuals approved by the WV Department of Education Alternative Certification Program. Content focuses on the initial knowledge and skills needed by beginning teachers to establish a positive and effective learning environment for students, plan and implement lessons that are aligned to West Virginia learning standards appropriate to the age of students and content area being taught, and information relative to becoming a positive contributor to the school community. Course credits may be used to fulfill requirements in the Master of Education in Teaching degree. Field experience in a West Virginia public school is required for completion of couse prerequisites: Approval by WVDOE for an Alternative Certification Program and admission to the CERT First Initiative at Shepherd.
