(3 cr)Both a diachronic and synchronic survey of the English language, its history and structure, the course utilizes traditional grammar, structural linguistics, and transformational grammar as a basis for a comprehensive understanding of how language functions-—both written and oral.Prerequisites: ENGL 301.
