BIOL 422 - Neurobiology

(4cr) Basic and integrative processes of nervous systems are considered with attention to their roles in species-typical behaviors. Initial consideration of cellular properties of individual nerve cells, cell interactions and neuroanatomy forms the basis for studying systems of neurons and their behavioral significance during the remainder of the semester. The focus is on the neuronal basis of naturalistic behaviors in animals, including humans. Topics include sensory systems, central processing of information, and production and control of patterned behavior. The course serves as a primer for further study in graduate or medical school. Prerequisites: BIOL 305 . Prerequisite/corequisite: CHEM 315 ; and PHYS 201  OR PHYS 221 ; or permission of instructor.
